A Great Pyrenees‘ clumsy attempt at cuddling up to her owner’s cat has proven a hit online thanks to the feline’s brilliant reaction.
The dog’s adorably awkward efforts were captured in a video posted to TikTok by Lindsay Curtis, alongside the caption: “I know my dog did not just sit on the cat.”
In the clip, the dog, who is called Luna, can be seen cautiously approaching a circular cushion, with a white and grey cat sitting relaxing at its center.
The feline’s peaceful doze is soon disrupted though, as Luna proceeds to trample across the cushion before parking her posterior on top of the increasingly startled cat.
First uploaded under the handle @lindsaycurtis1, the clip has racked up 8 million views on TikTok. It can be watched here.
It garnered a further 8.1 million views on Twitter after being posted by WeRateDogs, alongside the comment: “In her defense, that is her bed.”
For the most part, however, much of the discussion around the video clip has centered on the cat’s hilarious look over to his owner as the clip ends.
For hayley_halz it was a look that said “you gonna do something here?,” while Pie2thePie could imagine the cat letting out a cry of “mooooommmmm!!!” like an upset child crying out after a fight with their sibling.
Ladybug_parade imagined the cat addressing viewers directly, telling them: “Are you guys seeing this right now?”
Jamessmith920321 interpreted the look differently, arguing it looked more like the cat was saying to his owner, “oh…it’s not it’s not as bad as I thought. I kinda like this.”
That certainly tallies with the footage of the feline evidently in no hurry to get up.
Others thought Luna’s own look to the camera as the video ended was similarly telling.
Adbarnhart imagined the dog saying: “I told you Linda, if the cat takes my spot again I am just going for it and will not apologize.”
Some even suggested it was the look of a dog who knows they have just been caught doing something they shouldn’t.
Martina Lodi thought Luna’s look at the end was one of “oh you’re here. Didn’t see you.”
For a few the clip was, above all else, cute, with lexi.gill_ declaring that Luna was “just giving the cat a blankie.”
Curtis later returned to her clip to tell followers Luna has only done this “once before” and “usually would just sit beside him.”
She need not worry too much though.
According to Katy Nelson, an associate veterinarian at the BelleHaven Animal Medical Centre in Alexandria, Virginia, who also hosts The Pet Show with Dr. Katy on NewsChannel 8, it’s a great sign if your cats and dogs snuggle up in the way shown in this viral clip.
“If they are sleeping with each other and snuggled up together—really truly making contact with each other—then that’s an obvious sign that there’s true affection between the animals,” she told Insider.
“They aren’t going to trust another animal to fall asleep with them if they don’t truly get along and have that established bond.”
It’s not the first time a pet’s reaction to being caught in the act has sparked debate on social media. Earlier this month, a dog had animal lovers in stitches on Twitter after their owner posted a video of them being caught stealing food off a kitchen counter.
In another recent example, a golden retriever melted hearts with their reaction to seeing a cartoon dog on their owner’s television.
Update 10/26/21, 7:48 a.m. ET: This article was updated to reflect that Luna is a Great Pyrenees rather than a white Golden Retriever.
