Sleep with your pet? How that may affect you (and your pet)

“I love that we’re reversing the question,” said Dr. Dana Varble, the chief veterinary officer for the North American Veterinary Community. “In general, it is a very good thing for animals to sleep with their people.” Pets who share their human’s bed tend to have a “higher trust level and a tighter bond with the humans that are in their lives. It’s a big display of trust on their part,” Varble said. “Dogs and cats who are more closely bonded with their humans get additional health benefits, including increases in beneficial neurotransmitters such as oxytocin and dopamine, the feel-good hormones,” she added. Is it just dogs and cats who benefit…

Nevada animal shelter helps domestic-violence survivors stay united with their pets

LAS VEGAS – When domestic violence survivors think about leaving their abusers, one deterrent is leaving their pets behind. Very few women’s shelters allow pets, but one Nevada nonprofit aims to break that barrier. Noah’s Animal House’s goal is to keep domestic violence survivors united with their pets in partnership with a women’s shelter next door. Flying With Your Pet? It Just Got a Lot More Difficult.

Animals without service dog documentation must either travel in a pet carrier that fits under the seat, or in the cargo hold. And the coronavirus has thrown another wrench into the works: Multiple airlines, struggling to survive as flights were canceled and employee ranks slashed, announced they would no longer take pets in the cargo hold at all. Today, only American Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines accept dogs in the hold, and not on every flight — most aircraft can only accommodate a 27-inch crate, making options for those with larger-breed dogs even more limited. Some domestic airlines have increased fees for flying with pets in the cabin, as…

We’re in the midst of a severe labor shortage and a reluctance among many people to return to the office. So how can small businesses attract workers?
