O.J. Simpson says his cats always ran to Betty White’s house

Turns out that O.J. Simpson was both a fan and friend of Betty White, who he said was catnip to his two felines. The two were neighbors, with Simpson living at his now notorious Brentwood, Calif., estate — when his missing cats repeatedly turned up at White’s North Carmelita Street home a few blocks away. The pets, Bugsy and Sashi, were Abyssinians who “liked to hunt and normally they’d be in my backyard going through a lot of drama with these mockingbirds in this willow tree of mine but one day we couldn’t find (one of them,)” Simpson recalled in a video. The family was upset, Simpson said, and were…

South Korea: Cats caused more than 100 house fires in the past 3 years, Seoul officials say

A statement Thursday from the Seoul Metropolitan Fire and Disaster Department said cats caused a total of 107 house fires between January 2019 and November this year. The cats are believed to have started the fires by switching on electric stoves, the department said. Cats can turn electric stoves on by jumping on touch-sensitive buttons — and once overheated, the appliances can catch fire. Four people were injured in the fires, just over half of which started while pet owners were out, the statement added. “Cat-related fires are continuing to occur recently,” said Chung Gyo-chul, an official from the department. “We advise households with pets to pay extra attention as…

Maine cat missing for 2 months spotted on trail cam with a fox before being reunited with its family

In Maine, it is inevitable that wild animals and household pets occasionally cross paths. Often it occurs under the cover of darkness, or far enough into the woods that we don’t see those interactions. That’s why Carolyn Meadow of Saco enjoys seeing the photos of all the creatures that walk past the game camera in her backyard. On Nov. 24, she discovered a photo that showed a cat and a red fox, face to face. The cat showed up numerous times beginning in October. “At first we assumed that that cat must belong to a neighbor, but it was strange that we only saw him at night; never any sign of…

Cat burglar: New Zealand pet steals bong, bag of white powder and lacy underwear | New Zealand

A New Zealand cat with a reputation as a talented thief has taken his habit to new lows by bringing home drugs and a pair of lacy black knickers, according to his owners. Keith’s crime wave started three years ago, when he began stealing bras from nearby clothes lines and bringing home live eels from the local Heathcote river in Christchurch. But his ambitions have grown. According to owners Ginny and David Rumbold, in recent weeks the five-year-old black cat has brought home a bong and a ziploc bag containing unidentified white powder. He also left a pair of knickers on the back fence. Ginny and David Rumbold with Keith.…

What’s Really Going On With That Video of a Woman Breastfeeding a Cat?

There’s nothing the internet loves more than videos of people freaking out on planes. This is especially true in the age of Covid-19, in which mask and vaccine requirements have made air travel significantly more high-pressure than usual: we love watching a Karen go HAM on an unsuspecting flight attendant or passenger, and then to watch her get her comeuppance for it later. But if there’s anything we’ve learned about viral content, it’s that if a video seems too good to be true, it probably isn’t. Case in point: a four-part TikTok video purporting to show a man on a packed flight complaining about his seatmate breastfeeding a cat on…

Tim Dowling: I’m on my hands and knees, teaching our new cat old tricks | Life and style

It is a frosty morning and I am standing in the kitchen in bare feet, holding the door open for the cat. The cat dips its head low, studying the world across the threshold. “Faster, pussycat,” I say. The cat sniffs at the cold air swirling in from the garden, but does not move. I begin to close the door very slowly, in a bid to create a shrinking decision window. In the space of two months the kitten has grown into a tall-eared, spooky-looking thing that I sometimes find standing on my chest staring down at me in the dead of night, its nose a millimetre from mine. It…

Internet Is Living For Epic ‘Jorts The Cat’ Saga, Sparking Debate About Ethnic Stereotypes

The vast majority of orange tabby cats are male, thanks to genetics, and one male orange tabby named Jorts is at the center of Twitter’s biggest end-of-year conversation. A Redditor who goes by the name of “throwawayorangecat” took to the “Am I the A**hole (AITA)” forum to tell the tale of office cats “ginger” Jorts and tortoise-shelled Jean. It all began when a coworker complained the Redditor was “perpetuating ethnic stereotypes by saying orange cats are dumb.” “Jorts is just…kind of a simple guy,” they wrote in the thread. “For example, Jorts can’t open a door even when it’s ajar— he shoves it whether he is going in or out,…
